The Biology and ESS students are required to have a solid understanding of data. In this Think-In we will focus on how to reliably collect it, summarise and present it, understand the results of statistical analysis and write up these results in an investigation. You are encouraged to bring along one or two IA sample research questions to work through during the sessions.
Session 1 Introduction to collecting and summarising data and building these skills through your course.
Session 2 Choosing appropriate statistical tests, analysing the results and building these skills through your course.
The sessions will be co-facilitated by Zoe Badcock and Lisa Horsington.

Two 90-minute sessions via Zoom, 15 August 9:00– 12:15 CEST (Paris time).
This 3-hour Think-In is designed to help teachers develop best practice in successful formative and summative assessment in the Internal and External assessment.
The first session will concentrate on the criteria of the scientific investigation, the teaching of practical, mathematical, and statistical skills within the PSOW and in delivering formative assessment for the investigation. There will be opportunities to ask for specific advice on achieving good outcomes for student investigations and for sharing resources. Safety and ethical issues will also be addressed.
The second session of the Think-In will concentrate on formative and summative assessment for the external assessment component of the course, concentrating on the effect of the changes in the specification on the examination.
The maximum number of participants is 20, and an InThinking certificate of participation will be awarded at the end.

Es probable que todos ustedes tengan experiencia, más o menos extensa, en la enseñanza de la lengua española y su literatura. Pero, tanto si imparten IBDP Lengua y Literatura o Literatura por primera vez, como si ya lo han hecho previamente, pueden sentirse un poco desorientados
y sobrepasados por la nueva y copiosa información que va apareciendo.
¿Cómo elegimos el contenido de nuestro curso? ¿Cómo los organizamos? ¿Qué práctica es útil para nuestros estudiantes? ¿Qué tener en cuenta en vistas a la evaluación? En este taller, buscaremos respuestas posibles para estas preguntas y nos plantearemos como objetivos orientar hacia un esquema de programa y hacia la planificación de una unidad didáctica. Para ello, a partir de los contenidos del sitio, les ofreceremos herramientas de todo tipo para facilitarles el camino hacia la construcción de un curso atractivo para ustedes y para sus alumnos, siguiendo los requerimientos del IB.

This 3-hour Think-In is designed to help teachers develop best practice in the successful management and execution of the Scientific Investigation.
Session 1 will concentrate on the teaching of practical, mathematical, and statistical skills within the PSOW and in delivering formative assessment for the investigation.
_Session 2_will focus on assessment. You will be asked to moderate one IA sample prior to the Think-In and a second sample will also be assessed during the second session.
There will also be discussion on database and simulation investigations. We will also explore possibilities for experiments conducted away from the traditional laboratory environment using readily available apparatus. There will be opportunities to ask for specific advice on achieving good outcomes for student investigations and for sharing resources. Safety and ethical issues will also be addressed.

Two 90-minute sessions + a 15-minute break; via Zoom, 4 September, 9:00 – 12:15 CEST (Paris time).
This Think-In is designed for MYP Visual Art Teachers who want a practical approach to organising, designing and teaching toward criterion D.
At the end of the Think-In, participants will have a clearer understanding of designing tasks toward each criterion D strand, and how to guide students in developing the skills needed.
Session 1: Planning and teaching toward criterion Di Strategies and tools for teachers to design, teach and guide students. Strategies and tools to help students practice and demonstrate how to appraise their own artwork.
Session 2: Planning and Teaching toward criterion Dii Strategies for staggering ATL skills in the journal through a unit. Guiding students on reflecting on their progress and how to evaluate individual student development as an artist. Understanding what knowledge and achievement have been demonstrated in other tasks during the unit. Examples of producing evidence toward higher mark bands.

Two 90-minute sessions + a 15-minute break, via Zoom on 5 September, 14:00 – 17:15 CEST (Paris time).
In this 6-hour crash course over 2 days we will take a holistic overview of the IB Biology course.
On the first day, we will concentrate on strategies for best practice in delivering the syllabus content and the Experimental Scheme of Work, developing a teaching sequence, creating teaching resources, and preparing pupils for the internally and externally assessed components. On the second day, we will concentrate on internal and external assessment. There will also be a dedicated Q and A session where all your questions will be addressed. You will come out of this 2-day Think-In feeling confident, and well-equipped to teach DP Biology.

This 3-hour Think-In is designed to help teachers to develop best practice in successfully completing the Skills and Applications of Skills in situations where the resources available are basic.
_Session 1_will concentrate on the ESOW and the teaching of practical skills with limited equipment.
Session 2 will focus on integrating the mathematical and statistical skills within the ESOW and in delivering formative assessment for the Scientific Investigation.
There will be opportunities to ask for specific advice on achieving good outcomes for student investigations and also for sharing resources. Safety and ethical issues will also be addressed.
The maximum number of participants is 20, and an InThinking certificate of participation will be awarded at the end.
Two 90-minute sessions + a 15-minute break; via Zoom, 18 September, 14:00 – 17:15 CEST (Paris time).
This 3-hour Think-In focusses on the new Extended Essay in Biology (first examination 2027). The training is designed for teachers who are interested in developing their skills in mentoring an Extended Essay and the changes to the Extended Essay for first assessment in 2027. We will examine the new criteria and the means of guiding pupils towards a successful essay in Biology.
Session 1: Mentoring an Extended Essay Supervisor responsibilities. Distinguishing between Interdisciplinary and single-subject Biology Extended Essays.
Session 2: Unpacking the new assessment criteria The effect of the changes for 2027 on successfully mentoring a Biology essay. Developing a research question, managing the EE process, effective check-in and reflection sessions. Q and A session.
