This Think-In is designed for ToK teachers who are looking to develop their approach to the preparation of the exhibition assessment component. Participants will be encouraged to think carefully about the skills that are needed in the different stages of the processes of building an exhibition and how these skills can be nurtured in the ToK classroom. At the end of the seminar participants can expect to have a clearer idea of what is required in the exhibition task and how these requirements can be nurtured and scaffolded.
Session 1 The ToK Exhibition task
This session introduces the exhibition task and situates it within the ethos of the new ToK programme: specifically, that knowledge can involve material objects, that knowledge is predominantly social, and that knowledge involves performance. We shall discuss what makes a good exhibition and how to scaffold the choice of objects.
Session 2 Exemplification and forging connections
This session examines the roles these processes play in the construction of the exhibition through a set of hands-on tasks. Strategies for focusing on salient aspects of the prompt will be examined.
Session 3 Assessment
This session aims to refine participants’ appreciation of the subtleties of the assessment process by taking an in-depth look at a number of exhibition samples through the eyes of a senior examiner.
Session 4 Further refinements to the process of curating an exhibition
Finally, we examine how teachers can further support students in the curation process by guiding participants toward producing an action plan for generating the exhibition sensitive to the specific school context.

Keys to Success: The Scientific Investigation in DP Biology.
This 3-hour Think-In is designed to help teachers develop best practice in the successful management and execution of the Scientific Investigation.
The first session will concentrate on the teaching of practical, mathematical, and statistical skills within the PSOW and in delivering formative assessment for the investigation.
The second session of the Think-In will concentrate on assessment. You will be asked to moderate one IA sample prior to the Think-In and a second sample will also be assessed during the second session.
There will also be discussion on database and simulation investigations. We will also explore possibilities for experiments conducted away from the traditional laboratory environment using readily available apparatus. This Think-in will explore how supervisors can support students in developing a successful research question, for both experimental and secondary data chemistry EEs, that will allow the students to meet the assessment criteria. We will also explore the assessment criteria itself and examine what makes an excellent EE, including considering the differences between IA and EE. We will consider the role of the supervisor in supporting students in the writing of their reflections and how we can encourage the students to avoid descriptive, and focus on reflective, statements.

The Biology and ESS students are required to have a solid understanding of data. In this Think-In we will focus on how to reliably collect it, summarise and present it, understand the results of statistical analysis and write up these results in an investigation. You are encouraged to bring along one or two IA sample research questions to work through during the sessions.

Two 90-minute sessions via Zoom, 16 December 9:00– 12:15 CET (Paris time).
Students in the IBDP Visual Arts course (current syllabus, last exams in 2026) are asked to link their artist research to their art-making practices in both externally examined components: the Process Portfolio and Comparative Study. This Think-In will focus on helping teachers sharpen their understanding of related assessment criteria and strategies to improve their students’ higher-order thinking skills and make critical and meaningful links between artistic theory and practice.
Session 1 Understanding the importance of artist research and making elegant connections, with a focus on Criteria B & D (PP) and Criterion F (CS, HL-only). We will analyze high-quality examples and workshop examples (time-pending) where students stopped short of meeting the middle or higher mark bands.
Session 2 Practical applications for improvement A variety of questioning, reflective, visual mapping, and peer-feedback strategies will be demonstrated and shared. There will be opportunities to have your individual questions addressed.
